Accessibility first
WCAG 2.1 AA, high-contrast, keyboard-navigable, and built visually because that is how sign language works.
We could have charged for this. Platforms like SignDeaf normally do. We decided that a Deaf child’s parent, a nurse, a teacher, a new colleague or a Deaf person looking up their own language should never meet a paywall here.
That decision is the whole point of SignDeaf.
Why free
The reasoning, in full
Because language is not a product
British Sign Language is the language of the Deaf community. Access to it - for Deaf children, their families, their teachers, their colleagues - should never depend on whether someone can pay a monthly fee.
An enormous amount went into this
Hundreds of signs filmed, described and graded. A spaced-repetition engine. Progress systems, quizzes, a mirror studio, long-form guides, accessibility work, hosting, and thousands of hours of care. We know exactly what it cost. We give it away anyway.
No plans. No paywalls. No premium tier. Ever.
There is nothing to upgrade to, because there is no locked version of SignDeaf. What you see is the whole platform, for everyone, for as long as SignDeaf exists.
What we ask in return
Use it. Share it with someone who needs it. Treat it with the respect that went into building it. That is the whole deal.
